New Project Car – “Side Chick”
What you see pictured above is a recently purchased 4th gen Chevrolet Camaro that the guys in the shop have affectionately nicknamed “Side Chick.” In case you’re not familiar with the term side chick I’ve included a link to the Urban Dictionary definition.
Not to be confused with Josh’s other white 4th generation Chevrolet Camaro that runs 8 second 1/4 miles, “Side Chick” is a 2002 Camaro that has the following setup installed by the previous owner:
- Stroked 402 LS2 Motor
- Trick Flow Specialties 235 Heads
- Fast 92 Intake
- Fast 92 Throttle Body
- 1.80 Powerglide Transmission
- 8′ Performance Torque Converters (PTC) Torque Converter
A few hours after purchasing “Side Chick” we headed to MIR (Memphis International Raceway) for their Thursday night Test-N-Tune. Our plan was to get a couple passes in to establish a baseline before we made any changes. Off the trailer she went 11.15X @ 123 mph and an hour later she backed that up with another 11.15X @ 123 mph.
While an 11.15 @ 123 isn’t exactly what we would expect from a car with this setup (It only weighs 3400ish lbs w/driver) we assumed that like many of the cars that get brought to us after being somewhere else first there was likely gains to be found from a proper tune.
We spent most of the day Friday dyno tuning the car and we were rewarded that night at MIR’s Midnight Madness with a 10.68 @ 127 mph with the only change being the tuning.
Since this car is just a side chick and Josh plans to sell it at some point we won’t be going crazy with the build, but we do have a few things planned for it in the coming weeks including:
- Cleaning Up Wiring
- Removing the 4.56 Gear
- Suspension Work
- Nitrous
